چکیده

Agence Française de Sécurité Sanitaire des Aliments, LERQAP, 23 av. du Général de Gaulle, 94709 Maisons-Alfort cedex,France Abstract The purpose of this study was to assess the temperature conditions in neonatal care units for the preparation and storage of infant milk formula (IMF) and infant feeding using bottles and continuous feeding syringes. Enterobacter sakazakii in IMF for feeding infants has been chosen as the subject of this study because of the high risk incurred by IMF manufacture without total microbial destruction and the high sensitivity and mortality rates of this population group. From IMF preparation till neonate feeding, time-temperature profiles of IMF samples were monitored and analysed. In order to show the health impact of this data, potential E. sakazakii growth was calculated. As IMF can be also contaminated with Salmonella, potential Salmonella growth was also calculated. However potential Enterobacter sakazakii growth data were only analyzed because of Enterobacter sakazakii and Salmonella spp data being close.

Characterization of a collection of Enterobacter sakazakii isolates from environmental and food sources.

Enterobacter sakazakii has emerged as a rare cause of neonatal meningitis, septicemia and enterocolitis. Contaminated infant milk formula (IMF) has been identified as one infection route. A small number of clinical outbreaks have been epidemiologically linked to IMF contaminated post-pasteurization during manufacture and/or mishandled when reconstituted. Currently no agreed standardized typing ...

Survival and growth of Cronobacter species (Enterobacter sakazakii) in wheat-based infant follow-on formulas.

AIMS To determine the survival and growth characteristics of Cronobacter species (Enterobacter sakazakii) in infant wheat-based formulas reconstituted with water, milk, grape juice or apple juice during storage. METHODS AND RESULTS Infant wheat-based formulas were reconstituted with water, ultra high temperature milk, pasteurized grape or apple juices. The reconstituted formulas were inoculat...

Detergent and sanitizer stresses decrease the thermal resistance of Enterobacter sakazakii in infant milk formula.

This study determined the effect of acid, alkaline, chlorine, and ethanol stresses on the thermal inactivation of Enterobacter sakazakii in infant milk formula. Unstressed or stressed cells were mixed with reconstituted powdered infant milk formula (PIMF) at temperatures between 52 and 58 degrees C for various time periods or mixed with PIMF prior to reconstitution with hot water between 50 and...

Enterobacter sakazakii: a coliform of increased concern to infant health.

The first cases of neonatal meningitis believed to have been caused by Enterobacter sakazakii were reported in 1961. Prompted by several subsequent outbreaks of E. sakazakii infections in neonates and an increasing number of neonates in intensive care units being fed rehydrated powdered infant formula, considered to be a source of the pathogen, public health authorities and researchers are expl...

Powder infant formula milk contaminated with Enterobacter sakazakii.

To clarify the route and source of Enterobacter sakazakii infection in a basic study, we analyzed powder infant formula milk (PIF), which may be an important source of infantile infection, regarding contamination with Enterobacteriaceae including this type of bacteria, and conducted drug sensitivity tests with various antimicrobial agents. Enterobacteriaceae was isolated 36 (24.2%) of 149 PIF s...
